Saliceto di foce Oglio

Saliceto di foce Oglio

  • Address: strada Provinciale,57 – Viadana Viadana ITA

The white willow (Salix alba) is the tree which most represents our river banks where it grows wherever the ground is damp and fertile. After Barche di Torre d’Oglio bridge, on the right bank towardsCizzolo, where the Po and the Oglio contest the river bed, we find the flood bed white willow wood in the area of the Park which has survived the almost total conversion of the area into the growing of the poplar.

Here we find the natural habitat for various animals, in particular birds which prefer the river-bank forest habitats and which populate the “coarse sands” that characterise the mouth of the river, among which it is not unusual to observe the stilt plover.

This area is a Site of Community importance. The area of protection has been expanded in recent years  because the Po is eroding the bank on which the willow grove grows decreasing from one year to the next the size of this habitat.  (Oglio South park text)
