Who we are
As part of the European MEDCYCLETOUR project, in which the Consortium Oltrepò Mantovano is partner, a pilot action was carried out for the promotion, in the territory of Mantua, of a network of accommodation facilities and services for cyclists.
The network stems from the need to enhance cycling in the “Ciclovia del Po”, included in the prestigious European network of “EuroVelo” cycle paths: in the Mantua area, the banks of the Po are the infrastructure of the EuroVelo 8 Cycle Route.
Recent data show that cycling is a sector in great growth: hence the desire by accommodation facilities and various companies/associations interested in cycling (bike rental, tourist guides, mechanics, etc.) to seize the opportunity to promote cycling as a resource for the economic development of the Mantuan territory along the Po river.
The “Group of bike-friendly operators” of the Mantua stretch of EuroVelo 8 collects accommodation facilities (agritourisms, hotels, b & b, etc.), restaurants, tourist guides located in the Municipalities crossed by the Po: from Viadana to Ostiglia (right bank) and from Suzzara in Sermide and Felonica (left bank).

What do we do
The group, initially coordinated by the Consorzio Mantovano, currently brings together around 30 operators committed to offering quality services to cyclists: the goal is therefore to attract a greater number of tourists on bicycles interested in visiting the Mantuan territories along the Po River, to taste the typical local products and to pass an “experience” of slow tourism.
The Group is being established in a non-profit association, to carry out two main activities:
– implement a plan to promote the tourist offer of members, which involves the creation of a common website and the marketing of tourist packages;
– Establish institutional relations with the Municipalities and other Public Bodies as an Association, in order to dialogue constructively with the Administrations for the continuous improvement of the Mantua stretch of EuroVelo 8.
