In 1598 the Holy See allowed Sermide Jewish community to turn an existing place into a synagogue. In 1635 Mantua community gave them a beautiful Holy Ark, which looked like a classical basilica façade. Today this Ark is in a public museum in Jerusalem.
The synagogue was closed in 1936, and then bombed during the war. Just few remains are still visible on the upper floor of a house.
