Truffle Museum - Tru.Mu.

Truffle Museum - Tru.Mu.

The TRU.MU (Truffle Museum) is in Bonizzo, Borgofranco Po, a small village in Basso Mantovano (south of Po river), in the heart of Mantuan truffle valley. It was inaugurated in October 2007 and it hosts an annual conference about truffle. It is sponsored by the Province of Mantua, Region Lombardy, and the Agriculture Ministry.
The TRU.MU has two different scientific and educative itineraries: – one for children, with special workshops for them. – one for adults, more focused on truffle botany, biology and cultivation. In the first stage of the itinerary, children are introduced by “Gino Corteccia” (id est, Gino the Bark) to “Tufo il tartufo” (id est, Tufo the Truffle) and his family, following the lower orange line. While adults may read a scientific introduction on the upper panels. In the didactic stage, children may examine truffles under the microscope.
Still, there are scientific panels by Perugia University and Palidano agrarian high school.
In the museum library, visitors may consult several books about truffle, or surf the TRU. MU and other truffle museums’ web pages, while children may hang their stories about truffles on the walls.
Outside, children are guided by “Gino Corteccia” through a didactic park. Nature lovers may discover several cycle tracks or gastronomical itineraries along Po right riverbank, which is even spread with ancient ex voto chapels.
