Paludi di Ostiglia nature reserve

Paludi di Ostiglia nature reserve

A rare example of a shallow wetland and the last surviving area of the vast great Verona valley water system.

Drainage of the area began in or around 1850 but was not completed until the 1970s. It is home to 175 bird species and comprises very special and rare habitats that have been recognised on a European and global scale. In fact, the site is part of the European Nature 2000 environmental network and one of 49 important wetlands in Italy to have been awarded international special protection status. Free entry all year round.
