In 1513, a chapel was erected to serve the needs of the Confratelli Bianchi dell’Annunziata, dedicated to Saints Rocco and Sebastian, who have always been closely associated with the plague.
The brethren remained here until 1528, when another small church was dedicated to St Rocco close to the common graves. On November 30 1572, the Confratelli Neri del Santissimo Crocifisso were made canons.
Then, in 1741, the Confraternità del Santissimo Crocifisso voted to demolish the old chapel and construct a new one, again dedicated to St Rocco and St Sebastian. The project was completed in 1755. The earlier oratory of San Rocco dei Battuti Bianchi was demolished after 1803.
