The parish church is dedicated to St Jerome, priest and Doctor of the Church. It was built from scratch by Duke Guglielmo Gonzaga, on the site of an old tower which was converted to a bell-tower, in 1585.
For the first 70 years, it was entrusted to the congregation of the order of St Jerome in Fiesole, who left it in 1653 when the order was suppressed. In 1743, its status was raised to that of seat of an arch-priest.
